Remodeling & Building in Penrose and Fremont County

Down in the Arkansas Valley the climate softens. Milder winters, a longer building season, and a mix of older homes and rural acreage make for a different kind of project than the one you'd run in Monument.

Building Out Here

Lower, Warmer, and Full of Older Houses

Penrose, Cañon City, Florence, and the surrounding valley sit lower and warmer than the rest of our service area. Snow load requirements ease, the building season stretches, and irrigation and water rights matter in a way they don't further north.

There's also a lot of older housing stock here, which rewards a builder who knows how these houses were originally put together. Opening up a wall in a 1920s Cañon City home is a different exercise from doing it in a 2005 subdivision.

Questions

Building in This Area

Do you actually work this far south?

Yes. Penrose, Cañon City, Florence, and the surrounding valley are part of our regular service area, not an occasional exception.

What should I expect renovating an older home?

More unknowns behind the walls: original wiring, plumbing that's been added to over decades, and framing that doesn't match modern dimensions. We build contingency into the plan and open things up carefully rather than optimistically.

Is the building season really longer?

Meaningfully, yes. Exterior work that would be weather-dependent in Woodland Park is often comfortable here well into the shoulder seasons, which we use to your advantage in scheduling.

Does snow load design still apply?

It applies everywhere, just at a lower requirement than at elevation. That can make covered structures and additions more economical here than the same project further north.
